News in Brief
Britain in danger of demonising its children
Half the adult population in Britain is fundamentally prejudiced against the current generation of children and critical of their "animal" behaviour, a poll for the charity Barnardo's reveals today.
It found 49% of adults think children pose an increasing danger to society and 54% say young people are "beginning to behave like animals".
The charity commissioned a YouGov poll of 2,000 adults after the UN committee of the rights of the child said Britain should take urgent action to stop the demonisation of children.

Britain's economic outlook worsens
The recession in Britain will be longer and deeper than first thought, the country's leading business lobby warned Monday, as a separate survey showed that falls in house prices are picking up pace. The Confederation of British Industry predicted that the economy will shrink 1.7 percent in 2009 — a steep downward revision from the 0.3 percent growth it pegged in a forecast just two months ago. As leading property Web site Rightmove PLC added to the gloom with a survey showing that house prices are now falling at the fastest pace since 2002, Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave further hints that large-scale tax cuts can be expected in a budget update by the government next week.

Britain paying to deport immigrants who have never reached Britain
A flight aimed at deporting England-bound illegal migrants from Calais is set to leave London on Tuesday. The first of many, it will stop off in the northern French city of Lille to pick up its human cargo, before making for the war-torn central Asian state. Armed security guards will be on the plane, which is likely to be supplied by a British company after French ones refused to back the venture. It will cost some £200,000 in all, with the figure set to multiply to multi-million pound figures as more flights are organised. The decision to saddle the British taxpayer will a massive bill for the removal of illegal migrants before they have even set foot in the UK last night met with severe criticism.

Global warming causes winter migratory birds to shun UK
Fewer birds will migrate to the UK each year as warmer temperatures caused by climate change will encourage them to spend winters closer to home, a report warned today. Research from the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) has shown a big drop in the numbers of ducks, geese, swans and wading birds migrating to UK wetlands in winter. The report, published by the WWT, the British Trust for Ornithology and the RSPB, says climate change and milder winters may cause many birds to shorten their migration routes and stay closer to their breeding grounds.
This means that many traditional wetland sites in Britain will miss out on the annual spectacle of migratory winter birds.

Web fraudsters selling financial identities for £80 in UK
Internet crooks are selling complete financial identities for just 80 pounds in Britain, according to an online safety group. The Get Safe Online group, which is backed by police, government and banks, has revealed that Britons are losing their names, addresses, passport numbers and confidential financial data like credit card numbers to internet fraudsters, willing to make money as soon as possible. According to Serious Organised Crime Agency, fraudsters are selling personal information for as little as five pounds per piece of data or 80 pounds for an entire package. Branding it a serious problem, the online safety group calls for new ways to protect identities online. Almost six out of 10 people in UK are managing their finances online, making themselves vulnerable to ID theft. Experts warn that too many people use the same password for key websites, making it easier for bank details and other sensitive data to be gathered.
